Ratio and rates¶
A ratio compares two amounts: two cups of flour for every cup of sugar, one centimetre on the map for every kilometre on the ground. A rate compares amounts of different things, such as kilometres and hours. Together they let you scale a recipe, read a map, compare prices and describe anything that grows or shrinks.
| Step | Page | You will be able to |
|---|---|---|
| Play | Recipes, sharing and "for every" | Make more of a recipe that tastes the same and share things fairly by groups |
| Explore | Ratios, unit rates and scale | Write and simplify ratios, share in a ratio, find the best buy and use a map scale |
| Build | Proportional reasoning and speed | Solve proportions, spot direct and inverse proportion and work with speed, distance and time |
| Master | Percent | Find percents of amounts, percent change, reverse percents and repeated changes |
| Beyond | Growth and decay | Use compound interest, the number \(e\), half-lives and doubling times |
